Number 7 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2014 is the Progressive Swedes in "Opeth" and the record "Pale Communion"

Pale Communion does really fill me up with exciting moments, it's an album where the compositions are magnificence and full of dynamics and contrast. Pale Communion is just an extremely compelling album.

Todays tune "Moon Above, Sun Below" is a magnificent piece of art.

Number 6 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2014 is the British brash-rock duo "Royal Blood" that kicks us in the ass with the self titled début album.

Royal Blood with their mixture of anguished cocky vocals, vigorous drumming and bass of chugging menace. A tight bind of rhythm and noise that will kick you off your hard wooden chair! Royal Blood have made a very fresh and inventive album that works all the way from beginning to end. This is a fantastic record that is definitely worth to add to your collection.

On the 23rd of Mars next year these duo will play at Debaser Medis, Stockholm, Sweden. A show that I am almost certain it will be sold out, if it's not already.

Todays tune "Figure It Out" is taken from Royal Blood's self titled debut.

Number 5 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2014 is this Scandinavian music collective "Greenleaf" with their the fifth long-player "Trails & Passes"

"Trails & Passes" is filled up with great harmony, skill full riffs and expressive melodies signed by the guitarist Tommi Holappa. It's a great blend of fuzzy psychedelic stoner rock with classic heavy rock. The new singer Arvid Jonsson sings with high class, the vocals are mature and deep and suits Greenleaf perfectly. The album delivers a production that is both deep, sharp and more complex than previous releases. Greenleaf have released a really pleasant album.

Todays tune "Our Mother Ash", recorded live at sala maravillas (Madrid) 29-11-2014. Yes the sound is crap, but what the heck, this is freaking good.

The music here is timeless.

As Canon got the title "Best Heavy Drone Doom" album of the year I guess I have to say that this is best Doom record of the year.

Todays tune "The Ghost I Used to Be" is taken from the second full length album "Foundations Of Burden", enjoy! Todays clip is a Live Concert @ Lo-Fi ARCI club - Milano, so the quality aint the best.  Number 3 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year is the Portland progressive avant-garde metal band "Agalloch" with the latest effort "The Serpent & The Sphere"

"The Serpent & the Sphere" represents the most glorious sounding Agalloch album to date. It's a great addition to the band's legacy and a brilliant set of work, where you will get a great mix of progressive avant-garde style of folk metal that encompasses an eclectic range of tendencies including neofolk, post-rock, black metal and doom metal. This is one of those albums that is able to gain the perfect balance between the extreme and the quietly beautiful.

Agalloch's imagery and subject matter are natural beauty, melancholy and allusions to ancestral Heathenry. "The Serpent and the Sphere" is something you need to have.

Todays tune "The Astral Dialogue" is taken from the the fifth full-length record "The Serpent & The Sphere" and will get you something to dream off. Enjoy!

Number 2 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2014 is the Long Beach, California soulful blues rockers Rival Sons with the record "Great Western Valkyrie".

Great Western Valkyrie is an album that you must have and I mean that. This one have a great sex appeal, it's timeless with a soul that really will hit you in the forehead, the tunes have great groove that will get you up on the dance floor, if you do not dance then you surely will play air drums or lying on the floor trying to get the riffs right. Rival Sons have done it again and taken us to new places I could never have predicted, but it works a dream!

The album explodes out of the blocks in very similar fashion to Head Down, but this is far better. I feel like Im in heaven when the yellow piece of plastic is spinning on my record player, the volume is getting higher and higher and I guess my neighbours soon will hit the bell and tell me to fuck off!

Todays tune "Where I've Been" is a beautiful piece taken from "Great Western Valkyrie" but todays Video is from the Rival Sons EP 'WiMP Presents Juke Joint Sessions'. Recorded in Juke Joint Studio, Notodden, Norway, July 31st 2014. Recorded as part of the streaming company WiMP's, exclusive Rival Sons EP, 'Juke Joint Sessions', released on August 18th. A co-operation between WiMP, Notodden Bluesfestival, and Juke Joint Studio.

You will play this record over and over again, I have and you will! Just lean back, close your eyes, take your time and lose yourself in this masterpiece called "Ótta"!

Best of 2014

Time to sum up the year 2014.

The year has been superb regarding music releases, crazy indeed.

I do not make any protocol or markings on a paper on all my purchase of records, but noted that most of what is purchased in 2014 remains on the floor and should be sorted in as soon as i get some time over. Lots of tiles are still covered in plastic, because time did not exist to sink into a new record. This may well be one of the reasons that the top 20 is so sprawling this year. I did a fast count and notice that I have baught ruffly 250 new records during 2014 and all this are Vinyls of course :)

A year that have been a bit messy on a personal level. Creativity has been quite low this year, that includes my painting that have remained completely stagnation, which is really not good. I guess that a "New Year" promisses must set to be albe to change it. I will snatch up and try to take in 2015 with open arms and create the best year I can.

A few musical adventures have been done 2014, not as far as massive as 2013 was but here is some sort of summery.

Lost count of the gigs that have been made, around 50 that I can count of top my head.

Here is a list of the gigs that have been made taken from the top of my head, impressive list huh?

2;nd, the festivals,

3;rd some various shows, small club show to big arena concerts.

Craft, Black Stone Cheery, Clean Bandit, Morrissey, Peter Gabriel, Robin Williams, Monster Magnet among others

And for last, 2 Tours have been made with Melodifestivalen and Hong Faux with D-A-D

Mors Principium Est - Monster In Me

We end this year hard and heavy with the Finnish melodic death metal band Mors Principium Est (Latin for "death is the beginning")

The band was formed in 1999 in Pori, Finland by singer/lead guitarist Jori Haukio, guitarist Jarkko Kokko and keyboardist Toni Nummelin. Drummer Mikko Sipola joined in late 1999, soon followed by the arrival of new vocalist Ville Viljanen in early 2000 when Haukio decided to focus on his guitar work. Bassist Teemu Heinola was not appointed until after the band's first demo, Before Birth, which attracted attention from French record label Listenable Records in 2001. One year and two demos later, Mors Principium Est signed a three-album contract with Listenable Records completed by the album Liberation = Termination released in March 2007.

The band announced on April 25, 2007 the new lineup of the band. Karri Kuisma joined the band as the rhythm guitarist in 2006 and Lead guitarist Tomy Laisto joined the band in 2007. Jarkko Kokko will still be a member of M.P.E. but he will not play any live shows.

On March 2011 the band stated that members Tomy Laisto and Kalle Aaltonen had parted ways to pursue other ventures. The band stated "If we still want to continue with Mors Principium Est, we need new guitar players" and proceeded to ask for anyone who could try out around the world to do so.

On April 30, 2011 the band announced on their website that Andy Gillion had been recruited as the first replacement guitarist. On September 29, 2011 the band announced on their website that Andhe Chandler had been recruited as the second replacement guitarist.

Todays tune "Monster In Me" is taken from the bands latest release "Dawn Of The 5th Era", released December 5th.

The White Buffalo - Wish It Was True

The White Buffalo is the project of earthy, Oregon-born and Southern California-raised singer/songwriter Jake Smith, who grew up listening to punk bands like the Descendents and the Circle Jerks and didn't pick up a guitar until age 19.

During his college years in the Bay Area, he began writing and performing his own songs, hitting upon the White Buffalo name as one of several suggestions from his friends that he drew out of a hat. Smith's debut album, Hogtied Like a Rodeo, arrived in 2002, and he followed it three years later with The White Buffalo EP, which was produced by Eels' Koool G Murder. Released in 2008, Hogtied Revisited found Smith re-recording his first album in a friend's bedroom. Gigs with artists including Gomez, Ziggy Marley, and Donavon Frankenreiter and in locales as widespread as Japan and Australia spread the word of mouth about the White Buffalo. When pro surfer Chris Malloy heard Smith's music, he included the song "Wrong" in his movie Shelter, and White Buffalo tracks later appeared on the TV shows Sons of Anarchy and Californication. The 2010 EP Prepare for Black & Blue brought Smith to the attention of Unison Music, which signed the White Buffalo; the label's heads, Bruce Witkin and Ryan Dorn, also co-produced 2012's full-length Once Upon a Time in the West, featuring the talents of drummer Matt Lynott and bassist Tommy Andrews.

Panzer - Death Knell

$

Panzer is a new "supergroup" comprised of Frank; vocalist and bassist Schmier, best known as frontman of Destruction; drummer Stefan Schwarzmann (ex-Accept, Running Wild) and guitarist Herman Frank (ex-Accept)

Accept on December 28 announced that it had parted ways with Frank and Schwarzmann due to "scheduling and other conflicts beyond our control."

Herman joined Accept in 1982 shortly before the release of the band's "Restless And Wild" album and exited the group for the first time after the arrival of 1983's "Balls To The Wall" LP.

When Accept reunited for festival appearances in 2005, Herman handled second-guitar duties alongside founding axeman Wolf Hoffmann, with Schwarzmann sitting behind the kit.

Frank and Schwarzmann were involved in Accept's comeback with new singer Mark Tornillo and have appeared on their last three studio albums: 2010's "Blood of the Nations", 2012's "Stalingrad" and 2014's "Blind Rage".

A note from Accept:

"Accept would like to thank Herman Frank & Stefan Schwarzmann for being with us these last 4 + years, for making themselves available whenever needed and for rocking their asses off! We and the fans all knew that they had their own careers and that eventually we would run into scheduling and other conflicts beyond our control. Herman and Stefan are now ready to take on the world, with their own band “Panzer”, a Nuclear Blast Record deal under their belts and a new album!

We are parting as friends and wish them nothing but success!

We ourselves are getting ready for 2015 – another year of heavy touring! We would like to say thanks again to our fans around the world for their huge support and for the fantastic year 2014!

The Blind Rage World Tour continues in 2015 and it will be interesting to see how Accept recruits.

The Savage Rose - Wild Child

So here is the first Sunday of 2015, that means it's time for a classic. Today we pick a tune from our neighbours at the south.

The Savage Rose is a Danish psychedelic rock group, founded in 1967 by Thomas Koppel, Anders Koppel, Alex Riel, Jens Rugsted, Flemming Ostermann, and singer Annisette Koppel. Ilse Marie Koppel was also participating. Nils Tuxen replaced Flemming Ostermann from their second album.

Since the mid-1970s, the group was an acoustic trio consisting of Thomas Koppel, Annisette Koppel (then Hansen) and John Ravn as a core. From the beginning of the 1990s, the group returned to electric instrumentation. Thomas Koppel died on February 25, 2006.

After the release of Love and Freedom in 2012, Savage Rose have been on tour, but in Christmas 2013 they were back in the studio recording new songs and re-recording old songs. This time they will be releasing two studio albums, just as they did in 1968 and 1972. The first album titled Roots of the Wasteland is set to be released in April 2014 and the second as of yet untitled will follow later this year. After 47 years and 21 studio albums, they are still going strong. The first single "Mr. World" was released April 12, 2014 and the new album is set for release May 19.

Todays tune "Wild Child" is taken from the album "Wild Child", released 1973.

First Video is live at RAGNAROCK festival 1973.

Blackwolf - Moving Mountains

$

Born from a collective love affair with rock’n’roll’s true roots, BlackWolf’s soulful hard edged sound concentrates on channelling a contemporary voice with a vintage focus. Swagger-laden riffs collide with soulful swells. Pounding rhythms stomp, swing and shuffle alongside blues-soaked melodies, all providing an ideal base for lyrics that remain honest and a live show that remains not only energetic, but revitalised.

Recently nominated for Classic Rock Magazine's 2014 'Best New Band' award, alongside the likes of Royal Blood and Blues Pills, BlackWolf have also toured as special guests to Winger, The Answer and The Union (featuring Luke Morley of Thunder).

Since their formation in 2012 the Bristol, UK based band have supported a number of noteworthy acts including: The Temperance Movement, Toby Jepson of Little Angels, Michael Monroe, Reckless Love, Voodoo Six, Neville Macdonald of SKIN and many more. Riding high on this momentum, and that of their critically acclaimed pledge-funded début album 'The Hunt', BlackWolf hit the road this September with Planet Rock radio for their first string of headline dates as part of their 'Planet Rock Live Presents' UK tour. BlackWolf's 2014 début album release ‘The Hunt', along with their earlier 2012 EP release 'Taking Root’, has seen the band receive critical success by securing play-list spots on both Planet Rock radio and TeamRock radio, and collecting a mass of positive reviews from the national magazines and online press. The video for their single 'Keep Moving On' (taken from their début album) was released exclusively by Classic Rock Magazine, who later featured BlackWolf in the magazine's 'High Hopes' section, chose the band's follow-up single 'Moving Mountains' as one of their 'Tracks of the Week' on ClassicRock.TeamRock.com, and have just pre-released the band's latest stand-alone-single 'Kiss The Fire' on their 202 issue cover-mount cd.

With comparisons being made between themselves and successful peers; Rival Sons, The Answer and Alter Bridge among others, BlackWolf draw their sound from a heady mixture of blues, soul, R&B and rock'n'roll.

This is packed tight with energetic classic riffs and snaking blues grooves.

Todays tune "Moving Mountains" is the third single from BlackWolf's début album 'The Hunt"

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Yesterday it was time again for the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. With great excitement got to play my own choices and to hear what the other participants have made up for this event, perhaps best of all is to discovering some new or old music that you did not know of and yes I found many during this evening that I need to look up/buy. In the biggest secret I have pieced together the tracks for this evening, some new discoveries that showed up at the last minute and some tunes which I brooding on for a whole year :) Some tracks were obvious through the presentation of the 2014's best albums that went on during Christmas and New Year.

My Record :)

Thistime it wasparticularly difficult tochoosesongs, hey,how manygood songswerereleasedduringthe 70s, howthe hellselect one???? Well, Isimply had tofinda type oftheme,a red threadto followin order toseparate outa bit, to make the life easier in the selection of the tune. So my theme was influences and style.

Crazy, oh yes really crazy.

This years line up of categories was:

1. Best 70's
2. Best 80's
3. Best 90's
4. Best 00's
5. Best 10's
6. Free Card
7. Free Card
8. Free Card

So over the next few days I'll present all my choices in the order of recording I had with me, some tracks I already have played here before, but that does not matter, good things should be repeated! I will also pick a few favourites that I discovered during the evening and share with you guys!

Here they come. Track no. 1 (track no.2 tomorrow and so on...)

My first choice from yesterday's Hard Rock Night and the categorie best 70's was "Black Sabbath", is a song by the British heavy metal band of the same name, written in 1969 and released on their self-titled debut album. In 1970, it was released as a four-track 12" single, with "The Wizard" also on the A-side and "Evil Woman" and "Sleeping Village" on B-side, on the Philips Records label Vertigo.

According to the band, the song was inspired by an experience that Geezer Butler had related to Ozzy Osbourne. In the days of Earth, Geezer Butler painted his apartment matt black, placed several inverted crucifixes, and put many pictures of Satan on the walls. Osbourne gave Butler a book about witchcraft. He read the book and placed the book on a shelf beside his bed before going to sleep. When he woke up, he claims he saw a large black figure standing at the end of his bed. The figure disappeared and Butler went to get the book, and it was gone.

A version of this song from Black Sabbath's first demo exists on the Ozzy Osbourne compilation album The Ozzman Cometh. The song has an extra verse with additional vocals before the bridge.

It's one of the band's most frequently performed tracks, being featured on every single tour of their career.

Todays tune "Black Sabbath", enjoy!

Candlemass - Solitude

Today it's time to present category two (Best 80's) from the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night.

To follow up the theme and the red thread for this years record I decided to choose the most logical band and tune to follow up on the tough start I had chosen. So the choice was simply Swedish epic doom metal band "Candlemass". "A pillar of classic '80s metal" and the tune includes one of the strongest, most consistent songwriting of the band's career".

Candlemass is an influential established in Stockholm 1984 by bassist, songwriter and bandleader Leif Edling and the drummer, Matz Ekström. After releasing five full-length albums and touring extensively throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Candlemass disbanded in 1994, but reunited three years later. After breaking up again in 2002, Candlemass reformed in 2004 and have continued to record and perform since then. Candlemass is also the seventh best selling artist coming out from Sweden selling as of 2010 more than 15 million albums worldwide.

This years line up of categories was:

1. Best 70's - Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
2. Best 80's - Candlemass - Solitude
3. Best 90's
4. Best 00's
5. Best 10's
6. Free Card
7. Free Card
8. Free Card

Todays tune "Solitude" taken from "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus", is the debut album of the Swedish doom metal band Candlemass. It was released June 10, 1986 on Black Dragon Records. On its release, the album had a significantly different sound than other European heavy metal bands of the time, because of their use of operatic vocals mixed over slow and heavy guitar riffs. The album did not sell well on its initial release, which led to the group being dropped from the label during the same year. Since then, the album has been re-issued in several different formats. The album title Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is a Dog Latin rendering of Epic Doom Metal — the genre which the band pioneered and is most commonly identified.

Grand Magus - Kingslayer

Today it's time to present category three (Best 90's) from the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. To follow up the theme and the red thread for this years record I decided to choose to stay in Sweden and pick a tune of the more Heavy Metal vibe but with a love feeling of doom. The best choice for the Best 90's would be the Swedish riff-lords Grand Magus with their full-on metal assault "Kingslayer"

With seven albums, Grand Magus has created a unique sound and style, the metal purists manage to better their highly celebrated 2010 masterpiece "Hammer Of The North" and 2012 smoker "The Hunt" with the latest effort "Triumph and Power". The Sweden trio has always consequently sticked to its own path of evolution without ever leaving behind the gathered experiences – they’ve never casted off their early days’ groove nor their love for epic doom or extreme metal. These trademarks are now being paired with traditional riffs and melodies that rock in the same qualitative league as Judas Priest or Dio have and the basics from Black Sabbath. The guitars roar, the rhythm front around the new drummer Ludwig (Spiritual Beggars and others) grooves as hell and JB outgrows himself as far as the vocals are concerned. Thus, the band has created a phenomenal and impressive heavy metal opus!

This years line up of categories was:

1. Best 70's - Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
2. Best 80's - Candlemass - Solitude
3. Best 90's - Grand Magus - Kingslayer
4. Best 00's
5. Best 10's
6. Free Card
7. Free Card
8. Free Card

Enjoy this full-on metal assault.

Today it's time to present category three (Best 90's) from the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. To follow up the theme and the red thread for this years record I decided to take a trip to San Jose, California where we find the ultimate stoner doom band "Sleep".

A band with strong influence of heavy metal and of course the heaviness and doomish from the masters Black Sabbath. I did choice a great track named "Dragonaut", as soon as you hear the intro from todays tune, you know you'll bein for one hell of a ride... the tune has one of the most memorable, hummable riffs in doom.

The tune is taken from Sleep's "Holy Mountain" (1992),  The album is widely considered a seminal album in the evolution of stoner metal. The album's release was followed by a potentially lucrative offer from London Records, and Sleep signed with them. Around this time, Earache released its first Black Sabbath Tribute album, and Sleep contributed a cover of "Snowblind".

Today it's time to present category five(Best 10's) from the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. To follow up the theme and the red thread for this years record I decided to choose to turn back to US and pick a tune of the more doom vibe but with a real heavy riffing. The best choice for the Best 10's would be the Richmond, Virginia’s psychedelic doom band, "Windhand" and the tune "Orchard" from their second full-length album Soma.

Soma is an superb record for all fans of guitar driven trancendental, syrupy slow, monolithic and downtuned doom and it's as catchy as it is heavy. Poweredby singer Dorthia Cottrell’s beautifully haunting bellow, Windhand’s dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of early Black Sabbath and Sleep.

This years line up of categories was:

1. Best 70's - Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
2. Best 80's - Candlemass - Solitude
3. Best 90's - Sleep - Dragonaut
4. Best 00's - Grand Magus - Kingslayer
5. Best 10's - Windhand - Orchard
6. Free Card
7. Free Card
8. Free Card

Todays tune "Orchard" is a massive piece. Heavy drowned out, syrupy slow, monolithic with some downtuned fuzzy riffs, a real stoned out doom metal with strong Black Sabbath influences.

Today it's time to present category six (Free Card) from the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. Through these three "free cards", we will leave the theme and the red thread and looking outside the box. Of course, influences remain partially but that's not what was focus when these songs were selected. It just happened to be so :)

So the first "Free Card" is inspired by early 70's psych and proto-metal, Austin-based power trio The Well redefine heavy rock by merging massive riffs with sophisticated melodies. The Well have created a sound that reflects doom, punk and horror all rolled together in a ghostly rock soundtrack. Their full-length debut, "Samsara", is their strongest collection of songs to date. Produced by Mark Deutrom and released through Riding Easy Records, the masterwork is a stripped down, electric blues fuzzfest.
